Mrs. Tehilah Abraham majored in psychology and education at Touro and in reading post-graduate at Fordham University. Before moving to Hillside, NJ from Brooklyn, NY, Tehilah spent nine years teaching at Yeled V’Yalda and two years teaching Kindergarten through second grade at Yeshiva of Flatbush. For 16 years, Tehilah worked and volunteered with people of all ages at Bais Ezra. Always upbeat, creative and enthusiastic, Tehilah is a tremendous asset to the Learning Lab. She has continued to takes advanced coursework in reading instruction at the BJE in NY and at the Summer Institute Seminars, sponsored by the New Jersey Branch of the International Dyslexia Association.
Mrs. Yaffa Balken, a warm, dedicated Learning Lab Instructor, has a dual Master’s Degree from Touro College in General Education and Special Education and is certified as a ‘teacher of the handicapped.’ Mrs. Balken had previous experience teaching children with various learning difficulties in Primer and First Grade in Waterbury, CT, and also worked in Brooklyn, NY, as a shadow for a young girl diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome. Currently, Mrs. Balken specializes in Reading and Chumash, always encouraging her students to do their best. Mrs. Balken is also a talented pianist who has been teaching piano since the age of 16. Mrs. Balken lives in Hillside, NJ, with her husband and daughter.
Mrs. Yosefa Brown has been a familiar face around our school for many years working as a reading assistant and as an adjunct to the learning lab. Mrs. Brown has also donated much of her time doing holiday cooking and individual art projects with the lower grades. Her love of children and intuition in identifying children’s learning styles is evident in everything she does. She is a proud mother of four JEC students and graduates.
Mrs. Estie Katz has a dual Master’s Degree from Touro College in general education and special education, and is certified in New York and New Jersey as a “teacher of the handicapped.” A highly respected teacher, Mrs. Katz has experience teaching children of all ages. She taught Second through Sixth Grades at Gesher Yehuda in Brooklyn, NY, and worked as a SEIT for young children in Staten Island. In the Yeshiva of Elizabeth Learning Lab, she specializes in teaching reading through multisensory modalities, such as the SMARTBoard, assistive technology and the Wilson Reading System.
Mrs. Brocha Steinberg, Learning Lab instructor, came to the Yeshiva of Elizabeth in 2011. She has a Master’s degree in Special Education from Mercy College, and has three certifications from the State of New Jersey, and four from New York State. Mrs. Steinberg loves helping and watching her students grow at the Yeshiva of Elizabeth. Mrs. Steinberg is married, with a son. Her husband is a chaver kollel in the Elizabeth Kollel.
